Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 31, 2026
Reasonable Doubt™ ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that helps you critically evaluate text you select on any webpage. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled.
1. Data we collect
- Selected text — text you highlight and submit for critique. It is sent to our server to generate a Critique Card and is not stored after the response is returned.
- Email address — if you choose to sign in via email OTP. Used only to issue and verify a one-time code and to associate your usage quota with your account.
- Google account info (email, name) — if you choose to sign in with Google. Used solely to identify your account and apply your usage quota.
- Anonymous identifier (UUID) — a randomly generated ID stored locally in the extension. Used to enforce the daily free-tier quota for users who are not signed in. It is never linked to any personal information.
- Usage counters — aggregate daily counts of requests, errors, and quota hits. No text content or personal data is included.
2. Data we do not collect
We do not collect browsing history, page content beyond what you explicitly select, passwords, payment card numbers, or any other personal information not listed above.
3. How data is used
- Selected text is processed by an AI model (Anthropic Claude) solely to produce a Critique Card in response to your request.
- Email and Google identity data is used only for authentication and quota management.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except as required to operate the service (Anthropic for AI inference, Resend for transactional email, Cloudflare for hosting).
4. Data retention
- Selected text is not stored — it is discarded after the critique response is returned.
- Session tokens expire after 30 days.
- Account records (email, plan status) are retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
5. Permissions used by the extension
- activeTab / scripting / <all_urls> — required to detect text selections and display the Critique Card on any webpage you choose to use the extension on. No page content is read or transmitted except the text you explicitly select.
- storage — stores your session token and anonymous UUID locally on your device.
- contextMenus — adds a right-click option to trigger a critique.
- clipboardWrite — used only when you click a share button to copy content to your clipboard.
- identity — used only when you initiate Google sign-in.
6. Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy periodically. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
